Julie discovered the joy of singing at an early age, and never considered any other path for her career.
After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music as a postgraduate student, Julie started singing with many of the UK’s leading choral ensembles, including The Sixteen, The Hilliard Ensemble, The King’s Consort, The Gabrieli Consort, Cardinall’s Musicke, I Fagiolini, The Tallis Scholars and Ora, as well as performing as a soloist with the CBSO, London Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Three Choirs Festival, BBC Singers and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Julie has toured all over the world, sung on countless Hollywood blockbusters as a session singer and soloist, and has featured in over 200 recordings.
Julie is extremely proud of being a regular member of the world-renowned choir, The Sixteen.
Particular highlights include performing the soprano solos in two world premiere performances and subsequent recordings of James MacMillan’s Stabat Mater and choral symphony, Le Grand Inconnu; MacMillan’s Stabat Mater in the Sistine Chapel; 30 yearly Choral Pilgrimage concerts in cathedrals through the UK for the last 22 years; Mozart’s Requiem in the Alhambra Palace, Granada and a production of Handel’s Belshazzar with Grange Opera.
Julie’s extensive performing experience has informed her vocal teaching and coaching practice.
She is the vocal coach for Genesis 16, and has taken masterclasses, given chorister workshops, adjudicated competitions and coached choral societies. Julie gives a particular focus on singer communication and how best to enjoy the freedom of performance by turning nerves into excitement.
She coaches students towards auditions, choral trials, recital programming and repertoire choices.
Julie currently runs a busy clinical practice, specialising in Vocal Nutrition, as well as guiding clients towards optimum health and offering bespoke menopausal support.
After being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2003, Julie became interested in nutrition. During the pandemic in 2020, with fewer concerts than usual, Julie studied for a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. After 3 years, Julie graduated in 2022 as a fully qualified Nutritional Therapist. Julie’s performing career enables her to deliver nutrition talks and workshops to both choral organisations and corporate wellness schemes.
